Towards the end are several pages of type written records. Book, Ballarat School of Mines Students and Australian Institute of Mining Engineers at the Central Mine, Broken Hill, 1906
Each year The Australian Insitutue of Mining Engineers held a meeting in an important mining district or township. In 1906, via the good offices of David Ham an invitation was extended to the Ballarat students to take part in a trip to Broken Hill, via Wallaroo and Moonta, and Port Pirie. They left the Ballarat station on Saturday May 19, 1906 aboard the Adelaide Express. The Ballarat party consisted of David Ham (Ballarat School of Mines Council Member); staff members Frederick J. Martell, A.D. Gilchrist, John Sutherland, A.E.C. Kerr, A. Garard and E.J. McConnon. The attending students were W.P. Avery, M. Boyer, M.H. Bade, E. Booth, E. Crossly, A. Cooper, G.H. Davenport, W.E. Figgis, R. Galloway, C. Hesselmann, H. Hawkesworth, M. McCallum, H.F. Owen, W. Pearce, W. Sayer, J. Sutherand, Arthur E. Tandy and H.C. Valentine. Students were also present from the Working Men's College (later RMIT), Bairnsdale School of Mines, Melbourne University and the Bendigo School of Mines. Members of Australian Institute of Mining Engineers and students from the Ballarat School of Mines at the Central Mine, Broken Hill. Two sets by The Valentine Publishing Co. Pty.Ltd Melbourne. One set of Colour Photographs by Capt.Frank Hurley. The single postcard is by Valentine's "Mail Novelty" Post Card Copyright. One is addressed to 'Mrs. H. Ellis c/- Mr. E. M. Straw, Harcourt, Vic.'Nine packages of photo souvenir postcards from various Australian cities and towns and one single postcard of a Scottie dog peering out of a doorway. It has a lift up flap with mini folded photographs of Lakes Entrance underneath. Other phoyogtaph selected views and fold out photograph packets of: Sydney, Warrnambool, Mildura, Albury, Shepparton Murray Valley, Orbost Adelaide Hills. Elizabeth WEBBER nee EDDY. c1851 - 1928, the daughter of James & ... EDDY was born in Cornwall cl 851. At the time of her marriage she was living at her father's home in Ballarat where James EDDY was a ginger beer manufacturer. Elizabeth, who was 21 years of age exchanged marriage vows with the Reverend Samuel Phelp WEBBER on 4th April 1871. The groom who had left Cornwall in April 1869, was 29 years of age.| The wedding rites, performed by the Rev. Richard WARREN, were those of the Bible Christian Church which at a later date combined with various branches of the Wesleyian to become at the end of the 19'h century, the Methodist Church of Australia.| During Samuel's ministry, he and his wife moved around Victoria - in the goldfields of Ballarat & Sandhurst, later named Bendigo; Horsham and Daylesford and a city parish in Fitzroy. He was also (sic) President Conference B.C.C.| Samuel died during the summer of 1897, on the 14th February, St| Valentine's Day.| It is thought by a family member that this couple had five children, three girls and two boys.| After his death, Elizabeth who was confined to a wheel chair lived with her children. While visiting a daughter in Adelaide she died on Christmas Eve 1928.| Elizabeth,' with a younger daughter made baby wear to augment their income. This daughter's daughter, Beryl married W. GRAY.| The photograph and the above information was supplied by Elizabeth's granddaughter, Beryl B. GRAY and her husband.| Victorian Records; Marriages, 1871; number 2247N|B. Printed colour postcard of the east end of Sturt St. from top of the Nichol and Allen Building in Grenville St looking west. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat" in the top left-hand corner. Has three ESCo trams in the image, at the east end of Sturt St. In the bottom left-hand corner is the number "300477" and the initials "JV" within a circle. A 2d Australian stamp, cancelled with the postmark "Burnie Tas 21Ap 34" is in the top centre of the postcard. Image taken early in the days of the Ballarat electric trams, with no windows and no rooftop destinations. Appears to be the same tram possibly three times - looking at the number on the tram in detail. On the rear of the postcard is the address to a "Mme Helen Ferrando, Sori, Genova Italy" in black handwritten ink, while in the left-hand half of the postcard, typed in light purple ink is "Arthur H. Rubock, 23 Wilmot St., Burnie, Tasmania USCE 23897" (could be US Corps of Engineers) and the postmark of "Sori Genova. / 28.5.34". The printer of the card is "The Valentine & Sons Publishing Co.
